Research Experience

Racial Disparities in Cesarean Birth in the United States
Affiliation: University of Washington
Collaborators: Dr. Ellen Kauffman (Clinician), Dr. Kathleen Kerr (Biostatistician)
  • Analyze CDC National Vital Statistics System (NVSS) natality data to investigate racial disparities in cesarean birth, induction of labor, and birth pathways.
  • Develop and implement data preprocessing workflows in Python to filter large public-use datasets, transform variables, and compress files for efficient analysis.
  • Conduct stratified analyses in R and develop data visualizations to characterize differences in birth outcomes across racial groups, regions, and comorbidity burden.
  • Communicate analytical decisions and findings to clinical and quantitative collaborators through visualizations and written summaries.
  • Co-author a manuscript and a research letter examining racial disparities in cesarean birth and trial of labor after cesarean (TOLAC) and vaginal birth after cesarean (VBAC) outcomes.
DESC Evaluation of the STAR Center (Capstone Project)
Affiliation: Downtown Emergency Service Center (DESC), University of Washington
Collaborators: Josh Manandhar (MS Student), Tariq Cisse (MS Student)
  • Work with the Downtown Emergency Service Center (DESC) to analyze the effectiveness of the Stability Through Access and Resources (STAR) Center, alongside its accessibility among varying demographics.
  • Draft a statistical analysis plan (SAP) for future work in data preprocessing, missing data methods, descriptive analyses, and statistical analyses.
  • Create a project management plan (PMP) for even distribution of workload, ensuring utilization of individuals’ specific skills.
Evaluating ChatGPT-Generated Poetry (Independent Project)
Affiliation: University of Illinois Springfield
Supervisor: Dr. Hei-Chi Chan
  • Designed a study evaluating AI-generated poetry using structured linguistic and statistical criteria.
  • Presented findings at the UIS STARS Symposium and discussed the project in an interview with the UIS AI Campus Learning Community.
