I am a Biostatistics MS Capstone student at the University of Washington, and my undergraduate degree was a BA in mathematics and English from the University of Illinois, Springfield. My professional interests include observational research, particularly in the context of administrative and survey-based data.
During my time as an MS student, I have received training in various forms of statistical analyses, data visualization, and communicating results. Some courses and projects have involved longitudinal data; machine learning and regression; missing data methods; and more. I am fluent in R and have a working proficiency in Python for data pre-processing.
Outside of courses, I have worked on research with Dr. Ellen Kauffman and Dr. Kathleen Kerr to analyze the existing racial disparity within cesarean rates. This research utilized the CDC NVSS natality microdata, and involved an analysis of cesarean rate racial disparities in the context of induction rates, comorbidity burden, and trial of labor status. This research has allowed me to gain experience working with large administrative datasets, communicating with collaborators, and contributing to written and visual summaries of our findings.
Beyond research and courses, I currently hold the role of a Statistics Tutor at UW. I am also on two committees relating to diversity and equity; I have worked with the communities in both my current and previous university departments to promote inclusion, create community engagement, and foster a welcoming environment.
